The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White Is Joining Star Wars in a Very Unexpected Way

“Yes, chef?” More like “Yes” to the director of Chef. That’s what The Bear star Jeremy Allen White apparently said recently as he has joined the cast of the next Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu. It’s co-written and directed by Jon Favreau who directed the film Chef.

White is voicing Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt. Rotta first appeared in The Clone Wars movie and then played a tangential role in a few stories during the resulting Dave Filoni-led TV show, interacting with the likes of Asajj Ventress, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano. What the little Hutt has been up to in the years since Luke Skywalker and his friends killed his father and everyone on his sailbarge is yet to be seen. Reporter Jeff Sneider broke the news on the Kristin Harloff Show and io9 has independently confirmed. Lucasfilm did not comment.

The Mandalorian and Grogu recently finished filming and is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2026. Originally, a second Star Wars movie was supposed to come out in December of the same year but that has since been taken off the calendar.

Another Star Wars movie is still scheduled to come out in December 2027 and, Sneider reports, that might end up being Shawn Levy’s movie, not the James Mangold Dawn of the Jedi movie, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey movie, Dave Filoni’s “Mandoverse” movie, or anything by Taika Waititi, Simon Kinberg, etc. Wild.

As for White, he’s currently filming his role as Bruce Springsteen in a Fox/Disney film called Deliver Me From Nowhere, expected to be released next year. We’ll probably hear more about The Mandalorian and Grogu in April when Star Wars Celebration returns, this time in Japan.
