In my view, if you’ve never had a Kindle before, then the base model Kindle is your best option. It’s the most affordable choice and still comes packed with everything you need to start your e-reader journey. The latest 2024 Kindle features a 6-inch glare-free E Ink display, 16GB of storage, and up to six weeks of battery life.

On the other hand, the Kindle Paperwhite is a more premium model, so it does offer a few extra bonuses. It has a larger 7-inch glare-free E Ink display, the same 16GB of storage, but provides double the estimated battery life, with up to 12 weeks on a single charge. It also includes an adjustable warm light for the display, and unlike the base Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite is waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about using it near water, such as by the pool or at the beach.
