We Just Saw the First Footage From Masters of the Universe

The planet Eternia still doesn’t quite exist yet, but that didn’t stop Amazon and MGM from giving CinemaCon 2025 attendees a sneak peek at the new film Masters of the Universe. Director Travis Knight is currently on set in the United Kingdom filming the highly anticipated adaptation of the popular Hasbro toy line, but sent a little featurette/sizzle reel to the convention so theater owners know that next summer, He-Man is coming.

Again, most of the fantasy world of Eternia is going to be made with huge elaborate sets and lots of CGI, so we didn’t see much of that in the footage. What we did see was star Nicholas Galitzine in what looked like a young man’s bedroom, sitting on the bed thinking about something. Later he was lying on the floor in those kind of pink and white clothes we associate with Prince Adam, He-Man’s alter ego.

“We’re making a film I’ve spent my entire life dreaming about,” Knight said in the footage.

“Bringing Eternia to life is no small task. The characters, the sets, the sheer scale,” Galitzine and co-star Camila Mendes, who is playing Teela, said. “We’re doing it all. And with one thing in mind: to create an epic movie theater experience for audiences around the world.”

Further footage showed a stone room with a huge metal display in the middle of it showcasing the Sword of Power. We saw Galitzine swing it around a bit, as well as footage of him in the gym, lifting weights with Masters of the Universe posters on the walls.

“It’s incredibly exciting to me to bring this world to life for a whole new generation,” Knight said.

“We’re not making a cartoon here,” added one of his production team. “We’re making a live-action fantasy film about the most powerful man in the universe.”

Of course, you can’t have He-Man without an incredible cast of supporting characters and a killer villain. We didn’t get to see Skeletor’s face in the footage but Jared Leto plays the role, and it looks like very little of him, at least from the neck down, will be in CG. He had a highly detailed costume on with blue skin and seemed incredibly confident in it. There was also a rapid-fire edit of concept art featuring characters such as the Sorceress, Evil-Lyn, Man-at-Arms, Tri-Klops, and many, many more. Basically, each looked extremely close to the original animated versions you know and love, but just with a live-action twist.

The footage continued with time-lapses of sets being built and ended with a few scenes of Galitzine fighting in the He-Man outfit, and even a close-up of his long hair billowing in the wind.

Masters of the Universe is currently in production, aimed at a June 5, 2026 release.
