The Mandalorian and Grogu Shared a Tantalizing New Look

The Mandalorian & Grogu won’t be in theaters for over a year but at Star Wars Celebration Japan, the audience was given an exciting tease, and here’s what happened

Set for release on May 22, 2026, The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the first Star Wars movie released since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Set after the events of The Mandalorian season three, we pick things up with bounty hunter Din Djarin and his newly minted Mandalorian foundling, Grogu, as they go off on an adventure so big, it had to happen on the big screen.

Jon Favreau writes and directs while Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy produce. They were all on hand at Celebration to show the footage, which began in the belly of an AT-AT. They’re searching for a target and the camera pans back through the walker. Dozens of troopers are getting ready for battle when the back door blows off. It’s Mando.

In the same shot from before, he goes off. He blasts some troopers, flame-throws others, shoots his wire, it’s action packed. Once he’s killed about 12 troopers, the camera pans back around to the commander in charge. And he gulps.

We see there are three AT-ATs (which look a little different from how we remember them, with almost buggier eyes) and the action has been in the back one. It explodes and falls off a snowy cliff with the other two still walking forward.

“Messy,” Sigourney Weaver’s New Republic leader character says. “Very messy.” She’s at a table with Mando and Grogu and Grogu tries to steal her snacks.

“You work for us,” Weaver says over shots of a Razor Crest ship flying and Mando and Grogu walking with Zeb from Star Wars Rebels. Next, he’s exploring some dark area and turns a light on on his helmet, uncovering the remains of a droid.

There’s a fight in a bar, a shot of Grogu swimming, the pair of them on a smaller walker running under the AT-ATs, and more. Finally, we see a mouse droid with what looks like off-road wheels driving. Through its POV we see Grogu and he stops it with the Force. It all falls apart and one of the wheels rolls away.

In the final shot, we’re in the middle of an area with a very, very musclebound Hutt, and Grogu is in the crowd eating popcorn.

Starring Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jeremy Allen White (just to name a few people who are confirmed), The Mandalorian & Grogu is out May 22, 2206
